London: Soccer great David Beckham was officially knighted by King Charles III at a ceremony in Windsor Castle. Beckham described the occasion as his proudest moment, expressing gratitude and surprise at receiving such an honour. The knighthood recognises his contributions to sport, charity, and his role in London securing the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Beckham's career achievements include being the only English soccer player to score in three different World Cups, contributing to Manchester United's treble-winning 1999 campaign, and making 115 appearances for the England national team with 59 as captain. His club career also included noteworthy periods at Real Madrid, Los Angeles Galaxy, and Paris Saint-Germain, and he now co-owns the MLS team Inter Miami.

The knighthood also marks the height of Beckham's image rehabilitation following the criticism he faced, particularly after his 1998 World Cup incident, where he was sent off. Beckham has publicly discussed the severe abuse he received following that event, including effigies and public vilification.

Other honorees at the ceremony included Nobel Laureate Kazuo Ishiguro, recognised as a Companion of Honour for literature, and musical star Elaine Paige, who received a damehood. Beckham's knighthood was announced in the King's birthday honours list and celebrates his wide-ranging impact beyond football.
