Cristiano Ronaldo's sister Katia Aveiro has hinted that the FIFA World Cup 2026 could be the Portugal captain's final international tournament, calling the ongoing campaign his "last dance" with the national team.

Cristiano Ronaldo's future with the Portugal national football team has come under the spotlight after his sister, Katia Aveiro, suggested that the FIFA World Cup 2026 could be his final international tournament.
As Portugal advanced to the Round of 16 with a dramatic victory over Croatia, Katia's remarks sparked fresh debate over whether fans are witnessing the closing chapter of Ronaldo's record-breaking career in national-team colours.
Speaking before Portugal's knockout-stage clash against Croatia in Toronto, Katia indicated that Ronaldo's international retirement may not be far away.
"From the information I have, he can say goodbye. Enjoy it while it lasts. It's not today that he's saying goodbye, but it's soon."
The comments have fuelled speculation that the 2026 FIFA World Cup could be Ronaldo's final appearance on football's biggest stage with Portugal.
Katia went on to describe the tournament as a potential farewell run for the five-time Ballon d'Or winner.
"I believe this is his farewell. Enjoy it a lot. It will be difficult to find someone like him."
When asked whether she was referring to Ronaldo's pursuit of 1,000 career goals, Katia clarified that her comments were specifically about his future with Portugal.
"After 1,000 goals? Yes, that's something. I'm talking about the national team. The information I have, from a reliable source, I believe this (World Cup) is his last dance."
She points toward the ongoing World Cup being Ronaldo's final campaign with Portugal.
While Ronaldo himself has not publicly indicated any retirement plans, the remarks have intensified discussion around how much longer he intends to represent his country.
Ronaldo stars as Portugal edge Croatia
The retirement talk emerged on the same day Ronaldo once again delivered on the pitch.
Portugal defeated Croatia 2-1 in a tense Round of 32 encounter, with Ronaldo converting a penalty before substitute Gonçalo Ramos struck a stoppage-time winner to seal qualification for the Round of 16.
The result kept Portugal's FIFA World Cup 2026 dream alive and set up a heavyweight clash against Spain in the next round.
A career that reshaped Portuguese football
At 41, Ronaldo remains Portugal's most-capped player and highest-ever goalscorer. Since his international debut in 2003, he has represented the country at multiple FIFA World Cups and UEFA European Championships, becoming one of the defining figures in modern football.
His achievements include leading Portugal to their historic UEFA Euro 2016 triumph and helping secure the inaugural UEFA Nations League title in 2019.
Whether or not World Cup 2026 proves to be his final tournament, Ronaldo's legacy with Portugal is already secure. But with his sister now hinting that the end may be near, fans around the world will be watching closely as the Portugal captain continues what could be his last quest for World Cup glory.
