The French interior ministry on Sunday said that two people lost their lives and hundreds were detained in France overnight as football fans celebrated Paris Saint-Germain's remarkable victory in the Champions League final.
The main hub of the celebrations was Paris, where car horns, cheers, street singing, and fireworks filled the night after PSG's 5-0 win against Inter Milan in the Champions League.
The ministry reported that 491 arrests were made in the capital as crowds gathered on the Champs-Elysees avenue, leading to confrontations with police. Overall, including Paris, a total of 559 arrests were made across France.

However, overnight, the local press observed police on the iconic avenue deploying a water cannon to prevent a crowd from reaching the Arc de Triomphe, located at the end of the Champs-Elysees.
