Thousands of fans filled the streets of Paris to celebrate Paris Saint-Germain’s (PSG) Champions League triumph, a day after the French club defeated Arsenal 4-3 in a penalty shootout in Budapest to retain Europe’s top club football title.

Supporters waving PSG and French flags welcomed the team home as players travelled from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport to the Champ-de-Mars near the Eiffel Tower. The squad paraded along a red, white, and blue tricolour carpet before cheering crowds, though the event was delayed due to the massive turnout.

Players were received by French President Emmanuel Macron; they then moved towards the Parc des Princes stadium, where more than 40,000 supporters gathered for a final celebration.

The festivities came amid heightened security after overnight unrest linked to the victory celebrations. Authorities reported hundreds of arrests and injuries to dozens of police officers following disturbances in parts of the capital.
