Lisbon: Football icon Cristiano Ronaldo and his long-time partner Georgina Rodríguez are officially engaged.

Rodríguez shared the news on Instagram on Monday, posting a photo featuring a large engagement ring and the caption, “Yes, I do. In this and in all my lives,” written in Spanish.

The couple, who have been together since 2016, have two daughters and have raised Ronaldo’s other three children together. Their relationship has endured personal highs and heartbreaking lows, including the tragic loss of one of their newborn twins, a baby boy, in 2022.

From a chance encounter in a high-end boutique to building a family and now sealing their love with an engagement, Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez’s relationship is nothing short of a modern-day fairytale.

The love story began at a Gucci store?

It all began in late 2016, when Georgina, then 22, was working as a sales assistant at a Gucci store in Madrid. The Argentinian-born, Spanish-raised aspiring model was juggling odd jobs to make ends meet after moving to the capital at 18. That fateful day, in walked one of the most famous athletes in the world. Their chemistry was instant, and the meeting would soon evolve into a life-changing connection for both.

Since going public in early 2017, the couple has been inseparable. They've navigated life’s brightest highs and most heartbreaking lows together.

Just months into their relationship, Ronaldo welcomed twins Eva and Mateo via surrogate in June 2017. Shortly after, Georgina gave birth to their first child together, daughter Alana Martina, in November that same year. In 2022, their family was struck by tragedy with the loss of one of their newborn twins, a baby boy--a moment that tested but also deepened their bond.

Through it all, Georgina has stepped into the global spotlight in her own right. With over 64 million Instagram followers, she's evolved from retail worker to full-fledged model, fashion icon, and entrepreneur.

Her biggest public statement came during Paris Fashion Week in March 2024, where she walked the runway in a striking jersey-dress emblazoned with Ronaldo’s iconic number “7” and personal messages—a symbolic blend of love, sport, and style.

She also took creative control of her narrative by producing the Netflix docu-series ‘I Am Georgina’, first released in 2022. The show offered fans an intimate look at her world, proving that she’s much more than “just Ronaldo’s partner.” She's also a philanthropist, using her influence to support children’s charities, education initiatives, and animal welfare.

Ronaldo, now playing for Al-Nassr FC in Saudi Arabia after historic stints at Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Juventus, has often credited Georgina as his emotional anchor. The couple, who raise five children together, have become one of football’s most admired and enduring families.
