Rajkot: Varun Chakravarthy was all over England with splendid figures of 4-0-24-5, as the visitors could only manage 171/9 against India in the third T20I here on Tuesday.

The right-arm spinner Chakravarthy accounted for Jos Buttler (24), Jamie Smith (6), Jamie Overton (0), Brydon Carse (3), and Jofra Archer (0) to record his second five-wicket haul in the shortest format.

England, who lost wickets in clusters, were cruising at 83 for 1 in the ninth over but slipped to 127 for 8 after 16 overs.

For England, Ben Duckett (51 off 28 balls; 7x4s, 2x6s) provided fireworks at the top, while Liam Livingstone’s 43 off 24 balls, which included five sixes and a four, helped them pass the 150-mark.

Shami returns

India skipper Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and elected to field first against England, as they looked to clinch the series in the third T20I on Tuesday.

Fit-again pace bowler Mohammed Shami returned for the hosts, who lead the five-match series 2-0, as the only change, with Arshdeep Singh rested in Rajkot. However, Shami, who bowled three overs in the match, did not claim any wickets.

The 34-year-old Shami, who has recovered from a heel injury, last played for India in the 50-over World Cup final in November 2023 and recently returned to action in domestic cricket.

England, led by Jos Buttler, were unchanged from their previous loss on Saturday and looked to stay alive in the series.

Jamie Smith kept wicket in place of Phil Salt, who had a "stiff calf." (PTI)
