Ranchi: Fourteen-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi continued his record-shattering 2025 with a blistering 36-ball century for Bihar against Arunachal Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy on Tuesday, marking the second-fastest List A hundred by an Indian batter. The left-handed opener smashed 10 fours and eight sixes at the JSCA Oval Ground in Ranchi, arriving at the milestone just three days after India's defeat to Pakistan in the Under-19 Asia Cup final.

Suryavanshi's explosive knock falls just one ball short of the Indian record, held by Punjab's Anmolpreet Singh, who scored a 35-ball century against the same opposition in last season's Vijay Hazare Trophy. Globally, the teenage sensation's innings ranks joint-fourth fastest in List A history, equaling Corey Anderson's 36-ball hundred for New Zealand against West Indies in 2014. Only Jake Fraser-McGurk (29 balls) and AB de Villiers (31 balls) have reached the milestone faster.

Breaking de Villiers' Record

The Bihar opener didn't stop at his century. At the time of publication, Suryavanshi had raced to 150 in just 54 deliveries, shattering South African legend AB de Villiers' long-standing record of 64 balls for the fastest 150 in List A cricket. The knock represents Suryavanshi's maiden century in senior List A competition, coming in only his seventh appearance at this level.

Seventh Century of 2025

This latest feat adds to what has been a stellar year for the prodigy. The century marks his seventh hundred of 2025 across formats, including maiden tons in the IPL, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Youth Test cricket, and Youth ODIs. During this month's Under-19 Asia Cup, Suryavanshi set a world record by becoming the first player to smash 20 sixes in a multi-nation Under-19 tournament, surpassing Dewald Brevis' previous mark of 18.

Bihar opted to bat first after winning the toss, with Suryavanshi and opening partner Mangal Mahrour putting on a dominant display. The team had already surpassed 200 runs inside 18 overs as the Arunachal Pradesh bowlers struggled to contain the onslaught.
