Guwahati: The Indian Premier League 2026 kicked off with a stunning headline-grabbing performance as teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi delivered one of the fastest fifties in IPL history, guiding Rajasthan Royals to a dominant victory over Chennai Super Kings in Guwahati.
In what is already being called one of the most explosive debuts in IPL history, the 15-year-old prodigy smashed a breathtaking 15-ball half-century, dismantling CSK’s bowling attack with fearless strokeplay. His blistering knock of 52 off just 17 balls, featuring five sixes and four boundaries, ensured Rajasthan chased down a modest target of 128 with remarkable ease.
Chasing 128 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Rajasthan Royals made a mockery of the target. Suryavanshi, opening the innings, unleashed an aggressive assault that left CSK stunned early in the chase. By the time he was dismissed, the match was effectively sealed.
With solid support from Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rajasthan completed the chase in just 12.1 overs, finishing with eight wickets in hand and 47 balls to spare—marking their biggest-ever IPL win in terms of balls remaining.
Rajasthan Royals bowlers crush CSK batting line-up
Earlier in the match, Rajasthan’s bowlers laid the foundation for the emphatic win. Opting to field first after winning the toss, skipper Riyan Parag’s decision paid immediate dividends.
The pace duo of Jofra Archer and Nandre Burger ripped through CSK’s top order, reducing them to 19/3 within the opening overs. The pressure continued to mount as wickets fell regularly, leaving Chennai struggling at 41/4 by the end of the powerplay.
Ravindra Jadeja played a crucial role in the middle overs, picking up 2 wickets for 18 runs and choking any chance of recovery.
Amid the collapse, Jamie Overton stood tall with a fighting knock of 43 runs off 36 balls, helping CSK cross the 100-run mark.
However, lack of support from the top and middle order meant Chennai Super Kings were bowled out for 127 in 19.4 overs, a total that proved far from competitive.
