The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee is understood to be considering 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for India’s upcoming T20I tour of Ireland in June, following his standout performances in IPL 2026.

According to a report in The Indian Express, Sooryavanshi has been shortlisted among several players for the two-match series, scheduled for June 26 and 28.

“He is in contention for the Ireland tour and the selectors have shortlisted his name along with those of many other players,” a BCCI source told the publication.

If selected, Sooryavanshi would become the youngest player to represent India, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar, who made his debut at the age of 16.

Strong performances prompt early consideration

The move is seen as a departure from the board’s conventional approach of gradually introducing young players into the senior setup. Instead, selectors appear inclined to fast-track the Rajasthan Royals batter, with Ireland viewed as a relatively less demanding assignment.

A strong showing in the series could further strengthen his case for the subsequent tour of Zimbabwe, where India are scheduled to play three matches between July 23 and 26.

Sooryavanshi first drew attention during IPL 2025, where he announced his arrival by hitting a six off the first ball he faced on debut against Shardul Thakur. He followed it up with a 35-ball century against Gujarat Titans in just his third match.

His form has continued into IPL 2026, including a 52 off 17 balls in Rajasthan Royals’ opening game.

In addition to his IPL performances, Sooryavanshi has been prolific in age-group cricket. He scored 175 off 80 balls in the Under-19 World Cup final against England earlier this week, the highest individual score in a final, helping India secure a record sixth title.

His performances have drawn praise from former players and administrators.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan also backed an early call-up.

“When will he make his Indian debut? And I'm just looking, and I know we're probably getting ahead of ourselves. It's only the first innings of the IPL, but there's a white-ball tour to England in a few months' time. And if I was Indian cricket, I would get him on that tour,” Vaughan said.
