Rohit Sharma reached a major career landmark by crossing 20,000 international runs during India’s third ODI against South Africa in Visakhapatnam, reinforcing his place among the finest batters of the modern era. The former Indian captain, known for his effortless strokeplay and commanding presence at the top of the order, has built his career on a blend of composure, timing and power. His latest achievement reflects years of consistency across formats and his crucial role in India’s success, particularly in white-ball cricket.

The milestone also follows another personal feat earlier in the series, when Rohit surpassed Shahid Afridi’s tally to become the player with the most sixes in ODI history—proof that his attacking instincts remain undiminished. Rohit now joins a select group of Indian greats to have crossed 20,000 international runs, a list headed by Sachin Tendulkar with 34,357 runs. He follows Virat Kohli, who is the fastest to achieve the mark, and Rahul Dravid, who ended his career with more than 24,000 runs.

Rohit’s entry into this elite club further underscores his long-standing value to the national team.

Sachin Tendulkar leads the global run-scoring list with 34,357 runs, followed by Kumar Sangakkara with 28,016 and Virat Kohli with 27,910. Ricky Ponting amassed 27,483 runs, while Mahela Jayawardene scored 25,957 and Jacques Kallis collected 25,534. Rahul Dravid registered 24,208 runs, and Brian Lara ended with 22,358. Joe Root has scored 21,774 runs, with Sanath Jayasuriya contributing 21,032 and Shivnarine Chanderpaul adding 20,988. Inzamam-ul-Haq recorded 20,580, AB de Villiers made 20,014 and Rohit Sharma has now reached 20,000. Chris Gayle accumulated 19,593 runs, Kane Williamson has 19,168, while David Warner has scored 18,995 runs. (With inputs from Agencies)
