Shastri, a vocal supporter of Samson’s evolved game, continues to praise the wicketkeeper's improved shot selection and mental resilience, marking a successful turnaround for the star batter.

Chennai: Following a monumental performance at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai Super Kings’ Sanju Samson identified an unexpected element behind his return to form: the presence of veteran broadcaster and former India head coach Ravi Shastri.
After delivering a masterful, unbeaten 115* against the Delhi Capitals, Samson spoke openly about the mental burden of his recent scoring drought. He characterised Shastri as the "lucky charm" essential to his offensive revival.
A Partnership of Confidence
The interaction between the two took place during a mid-innings broadcast interview, where Samson explicitly tied his shift in fortune to Shastri’s role in the commentary booth. Despite coming off a dominant campaign in the 2026 T20 World Cup, Samson had faltered during the inaugural week of the IPL, tallying a meagre 22 runs across three innings.
“Yes sir, feels great thanks to you." Samson remarked during the exchange. "I think you seem to be my lucky person to meet before every game, so please come every game sir.”
Mitigating ‘Self-Doubt’
Samson confessed that his inability to carry his international momentum into the early stages of the IPL had triggered a period of "self-doubt."
Throughout this transition, Shastri has been a persistent advocate for "Samson 2.0," often highlighting the wicketkeeper's refined shot selection and enhanced psychological resilience.
