Kalpetta: India’s Women’s T20 World Cup squad was announced on Tuesday, with two players from Kerala making the cut: Asha Sobhana and Sajana Sajeevan.

“This is a dream-come-true moment for me. Thanks to everyone who supported me on my journey,” said an emotional Sajana after hearing the news of her inclusion in the T20 World Cup squad.

“To represent India in the World Cup is a dream I’ve cherished ever since I started playing cricket. Every time I stepped onto the field and achieved something, I believed I was getting closer to this big dream. And now, it has come true. I will be thankful forever,” said the star cricketer.

“It’s not just the coaches and trainers. I also remember those who took care of me when I was sick and helped me build mental strength whenever I felt low,” said the talented all-rounder.

“I am so happy that she has achieved what she always dreamed of,” said Sajana’s mother, Sharada. “She always wanted to represent India at cricket’s biggest stage—the World Cup! We supported her in every way we could. It is her hard work and the guidance of her coaches that helped her achieve this goal,” she added.

Sajana was on her way back after playing a Test series for India A against Australia when she learned of her inclusion in India’s T20 World Cup squad.

Sajana’s rise to prominence

Sajana rose through the ranks, catching the attention of selectors with impressive performances in Kerala’s domestic inter-district tournaments, which eventually earned her a place in the senior team.

In the recently concluded Women’s Premier League, Sajana hit a last-ball six to secure victory for Mumbai Indians against Delhi Capitals. She then became a key player for the Indian women’s senior team in T20 tournaments held in Bangladesh, South Africa, and Sri Lanka.

Sajana also served as captain of the Kerala Under-23 cricket team.

The Mananthavady native is a source of pride for Kerala and an inspiration to countless girls who dream big.
