Indian team’s departure from Barbados

The victorious Indian cricket team, led by Rohit Sharma, was scheduled to depart Barbados on Tuesday evening aboard a charter flight, following an assurance from Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley that the airport operations are set to resume within the next six to twelve hours after Hurricane Beryl's impact.

The team has been stranded in Barbados due to the hurricane-induced airport shutdown, following their exciting World Cup triumph. They were expected to depart Bridgetown at 6 pm local time and arrive in Delhi at 7:45 pm IST the next day. Plans for a felicitation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi are pending confirmation.

Mottley provided an update on the recovery efforts, expressing relief that the hurricane's landfall was avoided, although coastal areas and infrastructure suffered damage. Despite challenges, she emphasised the need for quick recovery and cleanup efforts.

Acknowledging another approaching hurricane, Mottley highlighted the narrow window for departure, underscoring the urgency for facilitating those stranded, including the Indian contingent.

The team, sheltering in their hotel post-victory, is reportedly in high spirits despite the circumstances.
