Rohit Sharma continued his stellar form in the the second one-day international (ODI) men's cricket match against Australia on Thursday, bringing up his 59th half-century in One Day Internationals for India. He went on to score 73 runs off 97 balls before being caught by Josh Hazlewood off Mitchell Starc’s delivery.

With this fifty, Sharma’s total as an opener in ODIs rose to 9,147 runs, allowing him to surpass former India captain Sourav Ganguly’s tally of 9,146 runs. He now holds the second position among Indian openers in ODI history, trailing only the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who leads the chart with 15,310 runs.

Rohit Sharma achieved yet another remarkable milestone by becoming the first batter to cross the 1,000-run mark in One Day Internationals between India and Australia, while playing down under.

Chasing the same feat, Virat Kohli currently sits in second place on the list with a tally of 802 runs.

Since making his debut in 2007, Sharma has featured in 274 ODIs, amassing 11,176 runs across 266 innings. His impressive record includes 1,046 fours and 344 sixes, with a healthy batting average of 48.6 and a strike rate of 92.8. Over the course of his career, he has notched up 58 half-centuries in the format.

Sharma achieved a remarkable milestone on October 14, 2023, when he became the first Indian to smash 300 sixes in ODIs. The feat came during a high-voltage India–Pakistan encounter at the Narendra Modi Stadium, which witnessed over 100,000 spectators.

Maintaining his exceptional run of form, the India skipper went on to become the first Indian batter to hit 50 ODI sixes in a single calendar year, achieving the landmark against New Zealand on October 22, 2023.

Over his illustrious career, Sharma has recorded 32 centuries and three double centuries in ODIs. He also stands as the third Indian batter to hold an impressive 50-to-100 conversion rate of 35.56.
