Punjab Kings produced a commanding performance to defeat Mumbai Indians by seven wickets in their IPL 2026 clash at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday, chasing down a target of 196 with 21 balls to spare.

Mumbai Indians posted 195/6 after being asked to bat, with Quinton de Kock playing a brilliant unbeaten knock of 112 and Naman Dhir contributing a steady 50. The duo rescued MI after an early collapse, adding a crucial 132-run stand for the third wicket.

De Kock, returning to the playing XI, struck his third IPL century and his first since 2022, scoring 112 off 60 balls with eight fours and seven sixes. However, MI’s innings never fully accelerated beyond his efforts.

Punjab Kings’ chase was powered by Prabhsimran Singh, who smashed an unbeaten 80 off 31 balls, and skipper Shreyas Iyer, who added 66 off 35 deliveries. The pair put on a dominant 139-run partnership for the third wicket, effectively sealing the game for PBKS.

The innings began explosively for Punjab, with the first over from Deepak Chahar going for 21 runs. Despite early breakthroughs from AM Ghazanfar, MI failed to contain the flow of runs.

A key moment came when Jasprit Bumrah dropped a regulation catch off Prabhsimran when he was on 11, a miss that proved costly as the Punjab opener went on to dominate the attack.

Arshdeep Singh led Punjab’s bowling effort earlier with figures of 3/22, removing key MI top-order batters including Suryakumar Yadav, who was dismissed for a duck.

Mumbai’s decision to promote Naman Dhir paid off partially as he supported de Kock well, but MI’s innings lost momentum in the death overs.

Punjab Kings maintained control throughout their chase, with Prabhsimran and Iyer punishing loose deliveries and building pressure on MI bowlers, who struggled for consistency apart from brief spells from Ghazanfar.

The win extended Punjab Kings’ strong run in the tournament, while Mumbai Indians suffered their fourth consecutive defeat, raising further concerns over their form and bowling attack.
