Karachi: Senior Pakistan selector and National Cricket Academy head, Aaqib Javed, has revealed that he closely follows India’s cricket achievements and is using insights from their system to improve Pakistan’s cricket structure.

Highlighting India’s consistent performance in white-ball cricket, including the T20 World Cup, Champions Trophy, and Asia Cup victories, Javed believes that talent quality is the foundation of any cricketing nation’s success.

Talent Development and Infrastructure

Javed emphasised that no matter who is appointed as captain, coach, or selector, progress is dependent on a strong talent pipeline. He pointed to the need for robust infrastructure, increased competition, and bench strength as critical factors to ensure a continuous supply of high-quality players.

Upcoming T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka

Discussing Pakistan’s prospects in the T20 World Cup, Javed expressed optimism, noting that playing all games in Sri Lanka is advantageous. He believes the current squad has the right combination of talent and readiness to make a global impact.

Focus on Mental Strength

Javed underlined the importance of mental resilience in modern cricket, as players face constant scrutiny and pressure. Evaluating mental toughness is as essential as assessing technical skills, he noted.

Domestic Cricket and Emerging Players

He highlighted the promising talent in the Pakistan Shaheens squad and domestic circuits, suggesting that several players are ready to step into international cricket.

Reflecting on his multifaceted career as player, captain, coach, and selector, Javed explained that criticism is a natural outcome of performance evaluation. Accepting criticism, he said, is part of accountability, and strong performance is the best way to minimise unwarranted scrutiny.
