Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman has reacted to his release from Kolkata Knight Riders after the BCCI directed the IPL franchise to part ways with him, amid political controversy and debate over the role of co-owner Shah Rukh Khan.

According to an NDTV report, Mustafizur acknowledged the decision with resignation while speaking to BDCricTime. “If they release me, what can I do?” he said, reflecting disappointment over the move, which followed rising political tensions between India and Bangladesh. The 30-year-old was signed by KKR for Rs 9.20 crore at the auction last month.

BCCI directive and KKR response

KKR confirmed that the release was carried out strictly on the BCCI’s instructions. In a media advisory quoted by the Times of India, the franchise said, “Kolkata Knight Riders confirms that BCCI/IPL as the regulator of IPL has instructed it to release Mustafizur Rahman from the squad ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season.” It added that the process followed due consultations and that a replacement would be allowed under IPL regulations.

Shah Rukh Khan not involved: Madan Lal

Former India cricketer Madan Lal backed the decision and dismissed suggestions of Shah Rukh Khan’s involvement. Speaking to ANI, as reported by the Times of India, he said, “This is the decision of the BCCI and the Central government must have taken this decision…” He further stressed, “There is no fault of Shah Rukh Khan as they have the team who picks the team.”

Political reactions and board’s stand

While BJP leader Sangeet Singh Som welcomed the move, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor criticised it. Meanwhile, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told NDTV that the decision was taken after assessing developments in Bangladesh and that KKR could seek a replacement if needed.
