Manchester: England star Jos Buttler made history on Wednesday by becoming the leading run-scorer in T20 cricket, overtaking West Indies legend Kieron Pollard. Following the milestone, Buttler earmarked 15-year-old Indian prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi as the player likely to break the record in the future.

Buttler sealed the record while playing for Manchester Super Giants (MSG) against Welsh Fire in The Hundred, smashing an unbeaten 51 off just 20 deliveries—a blistering knock featuring two boundaries and six maximums at a strike rate of 250.00.

With this performance, Buttler's career tally stands at 14,833 runs across 522 T20 matches, incorporating nine centuries and 105 fifties. He surpassed Pollard’s total of 14,803 runs (scored in 746 matches) and Chris Gayle’s long-standing mark of 14,562 runs (accumulated in 463 matches).

Reflecting on his historic feat, Buttler expressed pride while acknowledging that cricket's next generation will eventually push the boundaries even further.
"It's really cool, actually, to think you've got the most T20 runs out of anyone. Someone will surpass it one day - and his name's probably [Vaibhav] Sooryavanshi - but it's a proud moment," Buttler told Sky Sports as per Cricinfo.

The mention highlights the meteoric rise of 15-year-old Sooryavanshi, who recently made waves in international cricket by scoring 151 runs across three T20Is against Zimbabwe to capture his first Player of the Series award during India's 3-0 sweep. That performance followed a dominant showing at the ICC Men's Under-19 Cricket World Cup earlier this year, where he racked up 439 runs and claimed Player of the Tournament honors.

Buttler also shared a lighthearted regret about missing out on breaking the record in front of Pollard himself, who currently serves as head coach for MI London.
"We played against MI London last game and it would have been nice to get past Polly while he was there sat in the dugout, but there's some great names on there, some special players, so I'm really proud of that," Buttler said.
