New Delhi: Australian all-rounder Cameron Green was sold to Kolkata Knight Riders for a record Rs 25.20 crore at the IPL mini auction on Tuesday, making him the most expensive overseas player in the history of the league.
Kolkata Knight Riders secured Green after an intense bidding war with Chennai Super Kings, with the defending champions eventually pulling out. The purchase price surpassed the previous overseas record held by Mitchell Starc, who was bought for Rs 24.75 crore earlier in the auction.
However, Green’s salary for the season will remain capped at Rs 18 crore (approximately USD 1.9 million), with the remaining amount going towards the BCCI’s player development programme, in accordance with IPL auction rules for foreign players.

Meanwhile, Indian batters Prithvi Shaw and Sarfaraz Khan went unsold despite impressive recent domestic performances. Shaw failed to attract any bids, while Sarfaraz, who smashed a 22-ball 73 for Mumbai in a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match earlier in the day, also remained without a buyer.
