South Africa is in a commanding position after Day 3 of the second Test.

Guwahati: On day three of the second Test between India and South Africa at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, South Africa firmly took control after dismissing India for 201 in their second innings and reaching 26 without loss in eight overs, extending their lead to 314 runs.
Openers Ryan Rickelton (13 not out) and Aiden Markram (12 not out) were at the crease when bad light brought an early end to play.
Marco Jansen was the star with a devastating bowling performance, taking 6 for 48, his fourth five-wicket haul in Tests. Jansen’s short-ball barrage dismantled India's middle order, reducing the hosts to 122 for seven. He became only the third left-arm fast bowler to claim a five-wicket haul in India, joining Zaheer Khan and Mitchell Johnson. His consistent line and variations proved decisive on a pitch offering little assistance.
Yashasvi Jaiswal top-scored for India with 58, while Washington Sundar (48) and Kuldeep Yadav (19) provided defiant resistance, putting together a gritty 72-run stand. Off-spinner Simon Harmer finally ended Sundar's fight.
After taking a 1-0 lead in the series, South Africa is closing in on their first series victory in India since 2000. India now faces immense pressure and needs a miraculous effort to even level the series.
The day’s play began with Jaiswal and KL Rahul resuming cautiously from 9 for no loss. Rahul fell for 22 trying to defend a slower ball from Keshav Maharaj. B Sai Sudharsan looked positive with fluent cover drives but fell for 15 after a mistimed pull. Young wicketkeeper-batsman Dhruv Jurel fell cheaply for a duck.
Rishabh Pant, expected to counter-attack, was dismissed for seven after a wild slog against Jansen. Nitish Kumar Reddy and Washington Sundar fell to Jansen’s probing short deliveries, with Sundar’s dismissal also involving Simon Harmer’s off-spin.
Kuldeep Yadav and Sundar batted with determination, frustrating the South African bowlers until Sundar was eventually caught at slip off Harmer’s spinning delivery.
India’s innings ended when Jasprit Bumrah was caught behind off Jansen’s bouncer, handing Jansen a six-wicket haul and capping one of the finest all-round performances seen in India.
South Africa opted not to enforce the follow-on and began their second innings, with Rickelton and Markram starting confidently against Jasprit Bumrah and others.
South Africa now stands in a commanding position to win the match and the series, while India faces the prospect of their second home series loss in two years.
Brief scores: South Africa 489 and 26/0 (Ryan Rickelton 13*, Aiden Markram 12*) lead India 201 all out (Yashasvi Jaiswal 58, Washington Sundar 48; Marco Jansen 6-48, Simon Harmer 3-64) by 314 runs.
