Dubai: Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf has been fined 20 per cent of his match fee and handed a demerit point following a conduct breach during Sunday's One-Day International against England in Lahore, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced. Meanwhile, the visiting English side received a separate financial penalty for failing to maintain the required over-rate.

The ICC confirmed that Rauf breached Article 2.2 of its Code of Conduct, which penalises actions contrary to the spirit of the game. Alongside an official reprimand, the sanction brings Rauf's disciplinary record to five demerit points, marking his third infraction within a 24-month window.

The confrontation occurred near the end of Pakistan's innings following the 46th over. Positioned at the non-striker's end, Rauf appealed for a wide before getting into a heated argument with England all-rounder Will Jacks. During the exchange, the pacer raised his bat, ignored a warning from umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, and made physical contact by brushing past the official as he approached Jacks.

England were docked 15 per cent of their match fees after falling three overs short of their required target, even after factoring in time allowances. Article 2.22 of the ICC Code mandates a five per cent fine per player for every over a side is behind.

Both Rauf and England captain Harry Brook accepted the sanctions proposed by Jeff Crowe of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, bypassing the need for formal hearings. The charges were leveled by on-field umpires Rashid Riaz and Sharfuddoula, third umpire Wayne Knights, and fourth umpire Nassir Hussain.

The disciplinary actions follow a thrilling encounter where Pakistan claimed a dramatic one-wicket victory. Shadab Khan struck an unbeaten century to anchor the chase before forging a decisive, unbroken 89-run tenth-wicket partnership with Rauf, steering the hosts home with 17 balls remaining. The win secured Pakistan's spot in the tri-series final against Sri Lanka on October 31. (IANS)
