Sanju Samson’s return to first-class cricket was marked by disappointment during the Duleep trophy second-round match in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. Representing India D, Samson managed only five runs off six balls in a game against India A.
Samson's innings began with promise as he scored a boundary off the first delivery from Aaqib Khan. However, his stay was short-lived as he was dismissed in the same over. After opener Yash Dubey was out on the second day, Samson joined the crease but was soon dismissed by a short delivery from Khan. Attempting a pull shot, Samson was caught by Prasidh Krishna at mid-on.
Initially, Samson was not included in the Duleep Trophy squad. However, he was called up to replace the injured Ishan Kishan in India D. Despite this opportunity, Samson struggled, having only been brought into play in the second round, while K.S. Bharat had been selected as the wicketkeeper-batter in the first round.
