Weatherald paid the price for another failure with the bat during top-ranked Australia’s stunning nine-wicket loss to Bangladesh in Darwin.

Sydney: Australia have dropped struggling opener Jake Weatherald and recalled Matthew Renshaw for the second Test against Bangladesh following a shock home defeat.
Weatherald paid the price for another failure with the bat during top-ranked Australia’s stunning nine-wicket loss to Bangladesh in Darwin on Sunday. The 31-year-old scored just 23 and 0 as the underdogs recorded their first-ever Test victory on Australian soil in three attempts.
Since making his Test debut during the Ashes against England in Perth last November, Weatherald has struggled to establish himself, averaging just 20.36 across six matches.
The national selectors have turned to the 30-year-old Renshaw to help salvage the series as Australia look to level the two-match set in Mackay on Saturday. Renshaw, who made his Test debut a decade ago, last played for the national side in 2023 and holds a Test average just under 30. (AFP)
