London: Britain's Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, is set to make a rare public appearance amidst her ongoing cancer treatment, Kensington Palace announced on Saturday. Despite her health challenges, the senior royal and avid tennis player will attend the men's singles final of the Wimbledon Championships in London. As the Patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club since 2016, she will present the coveted Grand Slam trophy to either Novak Djokovic or Carlos Alcaraz after their highly anticipated match on the grass court.
"The Princess of Wales, Patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, will attend the Gentlemen's Singles Final of The Championships, Wimbledon on Sunday 14th July," Kensington Palace confirmed in a statement.
This appearance marks only the second official outing since the 42-year-old princess revealed she is undergoing preventative chemotherapy following a cancer diagnosis. Last month, she participated in King Charles III's Trooping the Colour birthday parade alongside her father-in-law and her husband, Prince William, along with their children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. The event at Buckingham Palace included the traditional balcony photograph, signifying her return to royal duties after abdominal surgery earlier in the year and her disclosure of a cancer diagnosis in March via social media.
In early June, ahead of her first public appearance since her health challenges began, she expressed her intention to pace herself and prioritise her recovery.
"As anyone undergoing chemotherapy understands, there are good days and bad days," she noted. Her treatment regimen is ongoing and expected to continue for several more months. "I am learning patience, particularly amidst uncertainty. Each day is approached as it comes, listening to my body, and allowing the necessary time for healing."
While Princess Kate attends Wimbledon, Prince William, in his role as President of the Football Association (FA), will travel to Berlin to support England in the Euro 2024 finals against Spain. Throughout the tournament, the 42-year-old Prince of Wales has been a steadfast supporter of the England football team, known as the Three Lions, as they made their historic journey to their first Euros final on foreign soil earlier in the week.
