Palakkad: A flex board at Ponpara in Palakkad has been receiving attention, referring to A Vijayaraghavan as the ‘designated MP of Palakkad’. Erected by the committee members of Ponpara booths two and three, this board has sparked rumours, especially as election results are still pending.
The CPM leaders have disassociated themselves from the flex, denying any approval of putting up the board before the election results are announced. They clarified that the workers might have displayed it out of sheer excitement.
In 2019, Congress candidate V K. Sreekandan secured victory in Palakkad, a stronghold of the CPM, by defeating MB Rajesh with a margin of 11,637 votes. This time, VK Sreekandan is once again contesting on behalf of the Congress, while the CPM has fielded senior leader A. Vijayaraghavan in an effort to regain the constituency.
As per reports, this year the voter turnout was around 73.57 percent in the district and it was 77.67 percent in 2019.
