Vadakara: Despite four months having passed since the Lok Sabha election results, the votes from two polling booths in Vadakara constituency, located in Azhiyoor and Chorode panchayats, remain uncounted. These booths faced technical issues with voting machines on counting day, leading to the postponement of the count, and as of now, it is now unsure that whether the votes will be counted at all.
Meanwhile, UDF which won the Vadakara Lok Sabha seat, citing public interest, is demanding the release of these results.
The uncounted booths include booth number 6 in Azhiyoor panchayat, where discrepancies in the total vote count arose when the box was opened. In Chorode panchayat's booth number 83, complaints were made about the box being opened prematurely, leading to the vote count being halted.
Given that UDF won Vadakara by a margin exceeding 100,000 votes, these uncounted votes would not affect the outcome. However, UDF is claiming that the Election Commission's delay in investigating complaints and announcing results challenges the integrity of the democratic process.
UDF district committee leaders K Balanarayanan and Ahmed Punnakkal have urged the Commission to investigate and take action promptly.
