Kollam: RSP leader N K Premachandran, the UDF candidate from Kollam parliamentary constituency, stated that “there are absolutely no issues with SDPI announcing its support for the United Democratic Front (UDF) in the upcoming LS Polls.”
“I am not aware of UDF’s official stance on the issue. But I find no issues with SDPI doing what they are intending to do,” said N K Premachandran.
“Organisations that wish to see secular government in power are naturally going to cast their votes for the UDF. Right now, I can’t comment on what the UDF’s likely response would be to SDPI's announcement. But I can assure you that RSP and UDF are on the same page when it comes to matters concerning the front. Every organisation is entitled to announce their support in the general elections. Several people want the BJP out of power; they desperately want Congress in power. The CPM’s vote bank in Kerala is going to shrink by a considerable margin. The party cadres know the facts by now,” he opined.
Earlier, Congress veteran and opposition leader of the state, VD Satheesan, had denounced the support pledged by the SDPI. Ever since SDPI announced solidarity with the UDF, the BJP has been using it as a tool against Congress at the national level.
