Thiruvananthapuram: Congress leader Adoor Prakash alleged the presence of more than 1.5 lakh double and duplicate votes in the Attingal constituency.

The Election Commission received a written list of 172,000 double entries, but 22,000 individuals, including those deceased, were only removed from the voter list, he said in a press conference.

"There are about 1,64,006 double entries, and this could increase as more names are added to the list. People with multiple voter ID cards are proof of double entries," he said.

Even though a similar complaint was raised in 2019, no proper action was taken against it.

A printed copy of 1,72,000 double entries was handed over as direct evidence to the Chief Electoral Officer. But he claims to have found only 373 double entries.

He also stated that the officials are reluctant to resolve the irregularities due to the instructions given to them by the government and why they don't remove names from the list.

It is estimated that there are 13,66,049 voters in the constituency. But currently, 1,64,006 are double entries. A total of 8.32 per cent of voters cast fake votes. He clarified that if no strong action is taken, he will consider taking legal action against it.
