New Delhi: The Supreme Court has intervened in response to allegations of discrepancies in the Kasaragod Lok Sabha constituency mock polls, directing the Election Commission of India to investigate the matter. The directive came after Advocate Prashant Bhushan brought attention to reports suggesting that the BJP received more votes than it polled during the mock elections.

During proceedings in the Supreme Court, Bhushan highlighted media reports indicating the alleged discrepancies and urged the court to address the issue. Responding to Bhushan's plea, a bench comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta instructed the Election Commission to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.

The hearing in the Supreme Court also encompassed various petitions advocating for the counting of all Voter-Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) receipts in electronic voting machines. Bhushan, representing the petitioners, proposed that the light in the VVPAT box remain illuminated throughout the voting process, enabling voters to observe the slip falling into the ballot box.
