Vadakara: Tight  security measures security measures have been arranged in connection with the counting votes on Tuesday, said Vadakara Rural SP Dr Arvind Sukumar. 

In the wake of the tension prevailing in Vadakara constituency regarding allegations and counter allegations of spreading of communalism, police have taken strong measures to ensure peaceful conduct of counting. According to Arvind Sukumar, around 1,600 policemen, including six company forces from the Kozhikode Rural Police District have been deployed for the task.

The district has been divided into eight subdivisions, each overseen by a DYSP. Currently, there are four active subdivisions, each equipped with 14 striking forces, comprising 25 members each, under the supervision of the SP.

There are special striking forces led by DYSPs. Striking force will be stationed at 16 police stations considered as potential problem areas. Moreover, 66 mobile patrol units and 26 mobile patrol units under Station House Officers (SHOs) will ensure vigilance across the district. Approximately 1,237 policemen, 80 percent of the rural police, have been tasked with maintaining security, along with five company troops. Enhanced security measures will extend to Thamarassery, in Wayanad constituency, overseen by two DYSPs.
