Kalpetta: As Kerala gears up for the 18th Lok Sabha polls, the Election Flying Squad seized a bunch of food kits from Wayanad. Around 167 kits were confiscated.
These were stored in a house at Kalpetta’s Vengapally, which is owned by V K Shashi.
While CPM leaders alleged that it is a move of the BJP to woo voters, Shashi stated that these were Vishu kits and were intended to be distributed during that time, but got delayed.
It is learned that the house owner has a political allegiance to the BJP.
Each kit has items worth Rs 480, which include tea powder, sugar, semolina, coconut oil and soap. These were packed at a wholesale store in Kalpetta and brought to the colony for distribution.
Earlier, the police had seized about 2,000 kits from Sultan Bathery, which were also meant to influence voters. These kits were being transported in a goods vehicle when the police confiscated them.
