Wayanad: Taking strong exception to Rahul Gandhi entering the poll fray from Raebareli in UP also, LDF candidate in Wayanad Annie Raja held that Rahul could have informed the voters of Wayanad that he would be contesting from another seat as well before the polling here. She also said that the move on part of the Congress leader was nothing but injustice and against political integrity.
“In parliamentary democracy, one can contest from two constituencies. That is the right of the candidates. He has availed of that right. However, he will have to resign from one of the constituencies if won in both. It will be an injustice to the voters of the particular constituency from where he is resigning. This would not be a spontaneous decision. Such discussions would have been held within the party much before. Hence even if a decision was not made, Rahul Gandhi should have shown the political integrity to say that such a move was in consideration. However, he did not do that,” Annie Raja said.
“K C Venugopal’s reaction that Rahul Gandhi has an emotional attachment to Raebareli raises questions against his emotions. He always said that he has an emotional bonding with the people in Wayanad. Although he has not done anything in the constituency, he has sought a second term citing his emotional attachment with Wayanad. Does he really have any emotional connection with Wayanad or is it just a means to gain ten votes or two seats?” she sought to know.
Rahul Gandhi filed nomination in Raebareli on Friday when hours left to file the same. In the 2019 general elections, Rahul had contested from Amethi besides Wayanad. However, he lost there to BJP candidate Smriti Irani.
