Paris: Ace India shooter Manu Bhaker secured India's first medal of the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024 in the Women's 10-metre Air Pistol on Sunday. The 22-year-old also became the first woman to clinch a shooting medal for India. She narrowly missed silver medal by a margin of 0.1 points to South Korea's Kim Yeji. 

Bhaker brought India's first medal in the ongoing mega event as she won a bronze medal with a score of 221.7.

It was a redemption arc for Manu after her pistol malfunctioned in Tokyo Olympics. She scripted history by becoming the first Indian woman in 20 years to reach an shooting final in an individual event of Olympics since Suma Shirur in 2004.

South Korea's Ye Jin clinched the gold medal with an Olympic record of 243.2 points. Her compatriot, Kim Yeji settled for silver with 241.3 points.

Bhaker secured a place in the finals after a stunning performance in the qualification round. In the first two series, Manu ended with 97 points. In the third series, the 22-year-old bagged 98 points. In the final three series, she sealed 96 points to finish in third place with a total of 580-27x.

Only the top eight shooters have qualified for the final round. Hungary's Veronika Major secured the top spot with 582-22x points, and South Korea's Ye Jim Oh secured second place with 582-20x.

Earlier today, shooter Ramita Jindal qualified for the final in the women's 10m air rifle event at the National Shooting Center. Ramita finished in the fifth spot with a score of 631.5 and will compete in the final on Monday.
