Washington: The United States Central Command announced on Saturday that a U.S. Navy destroyer intercepted an Iranian-flagged vessel as part of the ongoing enforcement of maritime restrictions directed by Washington.

In a statement released via X, CENTCOM confirmed that the USS Rafael Peralta (DDG 115), a guided-missile destroyer, intervened on April 24 to halt the progress of the Iranian ship. The vessel was reportedly attempting to navigate toward a port within Iran.

According to military officials, the interception was a component of a broader operational effort to maintain a blockade targeting Iranian maritime facilities. "Guided-missile destroyer USS Rafael Peralta (DDG 115) enforces the U.S. blockade on Iranian ports against an Iranian-flagged ship attempting to sail to a port in Iran, April 24," the command stated.

Diplomatic Uncertainty

The maritime encounter occurred amid major uncertainty regarding potential diplomatic engagement between the two nations. While President Donald Trump has deployed special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Islamabad, Tehran has officially dismissed the possibility of a meeting.

The Iranian government ruled out any direct discussions with the American delegation during Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s ongoing visit to the Pakistani capital, despite the presence of the high-level U.S. representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in the same city.
