Newly surfaced video footage from inside a bakery delivery truck has revealed the terrifying moment a United Airlines Boeing 767 clipped the vehicle while landing near Newark Liberty International Airport, in a rare aviation incident that has gone viral online.
The crash took place on the busy New Jersey Turnpike when the aircraft came in unusually low during its landing approach and struck the moving truck, according to reports from CBS News.
The aircraft involved was a Boeing 767 operated by United Airlines.
The clip recorded from inside the bakery truck captures the moment the aircraft’s landing gear makes contact with the vehicle.
The footage shows a sudden impact followed by glass shattering across the cabin as one of the plane’s tyres reportedly struck the windshield and side window.
Despite the violent hit, the driver, Warren Boardley Jr., is seen surviving the initial impact.
How did the driver survive the plane collision?
Warren Boardley Jr. was driving his bakery delivery truck along the New Jersey Turnpike, a route he had followed regularly for years, when the incident occurred.
The sudden impact caused serious injuries to his arm, hand, and other parts of his body, including head and internal pain. However, he managed to stay conscious and later contact his family after the crash.
The National Transportation Safety Board has launched a formal investigation into the incident.
Authorities will examine the aircraft’s landing approach, altitude, weather conditions, and air traffic control instructions to determine how the plane came into such close proximity with highway traffic.
The aircraft landed safely at Newark Airport, and no passengers or crew members were injured.
