Peshawar: At least 54 terrorists from the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were killed while attempting to infiltrate into Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province from Afghanistan, the military's media wing reported on Sunday.

In a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), it was revealed that the movement of a large group of militants was detected by security forces on the nights of April 25-26 and April 26-27 in the Hassan Khel area of North Waziristan district. The troops swiftly engaged the militants, killing all 54 of them. A substantial amount of weapons, ammunition, and explosives was also recovered from the deceased terrorists.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commended the security forces for successfully thwarting the infiltration attempt by the terrorists from Afghanistan. He emphasised that the entire nation stands in solidarity with the armed forces in the ongoing battle against terrorism, adding that Pakistan’s security forces remain steadfast in their commitment to protecting the country's borders and eradicating terrorism.

The Prime Minister further stated that such successful operations highlight Pakistan’s ongoing success in the war against terrorism and underscore the significant victories being achieved against terrorist groups.

On the very same nights (April 25-26 and April 26-27), there were firing initiated at the India-Pakistan LoC by the Pakistan posts violating the ceasefire guidelines between the two nations. These small firing and retaliation by the Indian Army comes in the wake of the gruesome Pahalgam attack wherein 26 tourists were killed in terrorist attack.
