At launch, the platform lists more than 40 prescription medicines covering conditions such as asthma, infertility and obesity.

The Trump administration has unveiled TrumpRx, a government-backed website aimed at helping Americans access discounted prescription medicines. The launch comes as healthcare affordability and wider cost-of-living pressures remain key public concerns, with officials presenting the platform as part of broader efforts to address high drug prices.
How the website works
TrumpRx is not an online pharmacy. Instead, the website directs users to pharmaceutical companies’ own sales pages where medicines can be purchased. It also provides downloadable or printable coupons that can be shown at pharmacies to obtain discounts.
At launch, the platform lists more than 40 prescription medicines covering conditions such as asthma, infertility and obesity. These include widely known treatments like Ozempic and Wegovy, insulin products and fertility medicines including Gonal-F.
Users can search for medicines, see which pharmacies stock them and identify commonly prescribed companion drugs. However, individuals enrolled in government-funded prescription programmes are not eligible for the discounts, even if they also hold private insurance.
The site notes that displayed prices reflect out-of-pocket costs. Insured patients may sometimes pay less through existing coverage, while cheaper generic alternatives may still be available in some cases.
Pricing approach and expected savings
The initiative forms part of the administration’s “Most Favoured Nation” pricing strategy, which seeks to align US drug prices with the lowest levels charged in other developed countries. Officials say multiple agreements have been struck with major pharmaceutical companies to support this effort.
Reported discounts vary widely, from roughly one-third off list prices to reductions exceeding 90 per cent on certain medicines. Some new drugs from participating manufacturers are also expected to launch at reduced consumer prices through the scheme.
GoodRx has been named as a pricing integration partner for several pharmaceutical companies, helping provide cost information for patients using the platform.
Despite these claims, the overall financial impact remains uncertain because prescription costs in the United States depend heavily on insurance coverage, market competition and individual treatment needs.
Political backdrop and industry reaction
The website’s release follows earlier delays and comes amid ongoing economic concerns among American households. The administration has highlighted its negotiations with drugmakers, including separate efforts to reduce prices for some Medicare beneficiaries under a federal negotiation programme created in 2022.
Supporters argue that direct-to-consumer pricing could increase transparency and competition, especially for uninsured patients. Others question whether the initiative will significantly reduce costs for people already covered by insurance and note that many details of the pricing agreements have not been publicly disclosed.
As the platform rolls out, its real effect on prescription drug affordability — and on the wider pharmaceutical market — is likely to be closely monitored.
