New York: US President-elect Donald Trump has named Susie Wiles, his former campaign manager, as his Chief of Staff. This marks a historic move, as Wiles becomes the first woman to hold the influential position, which leads the White House executive office. Calling her the "winner campaign manager," Trump said, "It is a well-deserved honour to have Susie as the first-ever female Chief of Staff in United States history."
"Susie is tough, smart, innovative, and universally admired and respected," he said in the announcement his campaign posted on X. This is the first key appointment Trump has announced as he builds his administration. On Wiles' role in his campaign, Trump said, she "just helped me achieve one of the greatest political victories in American history".

Vice President-elect JD Vance said on X, "This is great news. Susie was a huge asset to President Trump on the campaign and will be a huge asset in the White House."
A challenging job in a divisive administration
Serving as Chief of Staff under Trump is known to be a tough job. In his previous term, Trump cycled through four different Chiefs of Staff. John Kelly, a retired Army general who held the position, even became a critic of Trump, calling him a "fascist" and publicly supporting Vice President Kamala Harris.
Wiles’ long political career
Wiles, 67, brings decades of experience to the role. She started her career in politics working for President Ronald Reagan’s campaign, initially serving in a junior role. Over the years, she rose through the ranks, managing campaigns for governors and eventually leading Trump’s 2016 campaign in Florida. In 2022, Trump appointed her to lead his political action committee, Save America, which focused on fundraising for his return to the White House. As his campaign gained momentum, Wiles became one of the two principal managers of his 2024 election effort.
Other key cabinet positions being considered
As Trump’s team works to finalise the administration, attention is turning to other important cabinet roles. Among the names being considered for the position of Secretary of State are Senator Marco Rubio, former ambassador Ric Grenell, and Senator Bill Hagerty. Meanwhile, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is reportedly being discussed as a potential pick for Defense Secretary.
