US President Donald Trump has announced plans to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Budapest for Ukraine peace talks, following a “very productive” phone conversation between the two leaders.

Washington DC: The United States president Donald Trump confirmed that he will meet President of Russia Vladimir Putin in Budapest for further discussions aimed at ending the ongoing war in Ukraine. The announcement came after a lengthy and “very productive” telephone conversation between the US and Russian presidents.
Trump stated that “high-level advisers” from both countries, led on the US side by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, will hold preparatory talks next week before the leaders’ summit. While the exact date of the Budapest meeting is yet to be determined, Trump said he would brief Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the conversation during his upcoming Oval Office visit.

Kirill Dmitriev, a special envoy of President Putin, described the call as “positive and productive,” noting that the next steps in the dialogue were “clear.” Dmitriev also criticised the UK and EU for attempting to disrupt peace prospects, stating that US-Russia cooperation would prevail.
The meeting comes amid growing discussions in Washington about potential military support for Ukraine, including the possible supply of long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles to aid Kyiv in responding to intensified Russian attacks. Members of the US Senate are reportedly considering further sanctions on Russia, highlighting the complex diplomatic and military balancing act facing the Biden administration and the Trump-led discussions.
