"Ukraine has agreed not to hit Russian Energy targets. Russia has agreed to do, likewise!" Trump announced via Truth Social.

Washington: US President Donald Trump claimed on Monday that Russia and Ukraine have reached a reciprocal agreement to halt strikes on each other's energy infrastructure. However, the announcement lacked specifics regarding an implementation date, duration, or enforcement mechanism.

The social media post provided no technical details about which facilities are protected or whether either nation imposed preconditions. It also remained unclear whether the commitment had already taken effect.
Additionally, Trump linked rising global diesel costs directly to the ongoing conflict in Eastern Europe, downplaying the role of Middle Eastern tensions.
"The World's Diesel price rise is mostly caused by the Russia/Ukraine War, not Iran," the US President stated.
Trump provided no supporting data, metrics, or timeframes to back his economic assertion, nor did he expand on the reference to Iran.
The announcement focused solely on energy infrastructure, stopping short of declaring a broader ceasefire or indicating an end to overall frontline combat. Trump did not disclose who brokered the arrangement or whether diplomatic negotiations had taken place.
Neither the Russian nor Ukrainian governments issued official statements confirming or verifying the deal, leaving the exact parameters of the agreement unverified.
Energy networks in both nations have sustained severe damage since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. According to assessments by the United Nations Development Programme, strikes on power grids have caused widespread destruction to generating capacity. UN human rights monitors have warned that these disruptions heavily impact heating, water supply, healthcare, and education across Ukraine, while also noting retaliatory Ukrainian strikes on heating and electrical infrastructure in Russia's Belgorod region.(IANS)
