Washington: Sergio Gor has expressed deep gratitude following his nomination by former President Donald Trump as the next United States Ambassador to India and Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs.

In a statement shared on social media, Gor said he was “beyond grateful” for Trump’s “incredible trust and confidence” in putting his name forward for the key diplomatic post. “Nothing has made me prouder than to serve the American people through the GREAT work of this Administration,” he wrote. “It will be the honour of my life to represent the United States.”

Gor, 38, who currently serves as Director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office, will continue in his role until the confirmation process is complete. He is set to succeed Eric Garcetti, who served as ambassador from May 2023 until January 2025.

In his announcement, Trump praised Gor as a “great friend” and “essential” figure in his administration. “Sergio will make an incredible Ambassador. Congratulations Sergio!” he declared, highlighting Gor’s involvement in his presidential campaigns, bestselling books, and the running of one of the largest Super PACs backing the former president’s movement.

Trump also credited Gor and his team with overseeing the hiring of nearly 4,000 federal officials “in record time,” stating that over 95 per cent of key positions are now filled.

The nomination comes at a time of heightened trade tensions between Washington and New Delhi, underscoring the importance of strong diplomatic leadership in the region.

“With the most populous region in the world, it is important that I have someone I can fully trust to deliver on my agenda and help us make America great again,” Trump added.

Vice President JD Vance also voiced support for the appointment, describing Gor as someone who “will make a fantastic ambassador for our country to India.” (With inputs from Agencies)
