Saudi Arabia announces Eid al Fitr 2026 will fall on March 20 after Shawwal crescent moon sighting

Dubai: Saudi Arabia has officially announced that Eid al-Fitr 2026 will be celebrated on March 20, following the verification that the Shawwal crescent moon was not sighted, marking the conclusion of Ramadan after 30 days of fasting.
The country’s moon-sighting committee convened to confirm the new lunar crescent, in line with the traditional Islamic practice of determining the start of a new month through lunar observation.

Eid holidays for the private and non-profit sectors
Earlier this month, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development announced that Eid holidays for employees in private and non-profit sectors would begin on Wednesday, March 18, lasting four days in accordance with the Saudi Labour Law.
Mohammed Al Ruzaiqi, the ministry spokesperson, said the advance announcement provides clarity for employers and employees, enabling organisations to plan work schedules, maintain operational continuity in essential sectors, and ensure workers can enjoy the festive break.
This announcement ensures that residents and workers across Saudi Arabia can prepare for Eid celebrations while adhering to labour regulations and festive traditions.
