Washington: The White House on Tuesday signalled cautious optimism in ongoing efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war, stating that the remaining challenges in negotiations are “not insurmountable.”
Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt posted on X that the United States has made “tremendous progress towards a peace deal” but emphasized that some sensitive details still require careful negotiation.
“There are a few delicate, but not insurmountable, details that must be sorted out and will require further talks between Ukraine, Russia, and the United States,” Leavitt wrote.
The latest round of discussions involves U.S. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll, who has been in talks with Russian delegates over a U.S.-backed plan to end the conflict. Lieutenant Colonel Jeff Tolbert, Driscoll’s spokesperson, said the negotiations “are going well” and remain constructive.
“Late Monday and throughout Tuesday, Secretary Driscoll and team have been in discussions with the Russian delegation to achieve a lasting peace in Ukraine,” Tolbert added, expressing optimism about the outcome.
