Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s playful “Melody” chocolate gift to Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has gone viral on social media ahead of key India-Italy talks in Rome, with users flooding the internet with memes and reactions.

The viral moment unfolded when Meloni hosted PM Modi for dinner and accompanied him on a visit to the iconic Colosseum before formal bilateral discussions between the two leaders. During the meeting, Modi gifted Meloni India’s popular “Melody” toffee, a gesture that instantly caught attention online because of its resemblance to the Italian leader’s surname.

Meloni later shared the video on her official social media handle and wrote, “Thank you for the gift.” Both leaders were seen laughing during the exchange, adding a light-hearted moment to the high-level diplomatic engagement.

The clip quickly spread across social media platforms, with users calling it one of the most unexpected viral moments from PM Modi’s Italy visit. “Diplomacy just got a lot sweeter,” one user wrote. Others referenced the famous Melody chocolate tagline, posting, “Melody itni chocolaty kyun hai?”

Several social media users also joked that PM Modi appeared to be aware of viral meme culture. “I think Modi watches memes,” one comment read, while another user wrote, “They’re taking part in memes now.”

PM Modi arrived in Italy on Tuesday as part of the final leg of his five-nation tour from May 15 to 20. Before Italy, the prime minister visited the UAE, the Netherlands, Sweden and Norway.

The prime minister said he was looking forward to holding formal talks with Meloni on Wednesday to further strengthen India-Italy friendship and boost bilateral cooperation.

The moment gained massive traction because “Melody” sounds similar to “Meloni,” a comparison that has already inspired several memes online.
