As the 1980s retro wave begins to lose some of its grip on social media, Google has introduced a new AI-powered video trend in India that turns users into spinning 3D figures.

The tech giant is promoting the trend through its Indian social media handles, Google India and Google Gemini India, inviting users to create short videos using its Gemini artificial intelligence tool. The videos place a person inside a modern elevator and make them rotate like a frozen 3D model before a microwave-style chime signals the end.

Google has dubbed the format the “microwave trend”. Students in India can create the clips free through the Google Gemini Student Plan using the Omni model at goo.gle/freeplus.

How to create the spinning video

Google has outlined three basic steps for creating the video. Users first upload a photograph of themselves to Google Gemini. They then copy a specific prompt shared by the company in the comments section of its social media post.

After pressing enter, Gemini processes the photograph and generates a short video in which the person completes a full rotation.

The prompt asks Gemini to place the subject inside a bright, modern Indian elevator. The person is rendered as a photorealistic 3D photogrammetry scan, with the face, physique, clothing and pose preserved as a single rigid, fused mesh.

The effect is designed to make the person appear more like a rotating 3D object than someone physically moving inside the elevator. The camera and the surrounding background remain completely still throughout the clip.

The 7.5-second spin and microwave chime

The movement is also tightly specified in Google's prompt. The subject must rotate only along the vertical Y-axis, without any skeletal movement.

The figure completes one full 360-degree rotation in exactly 7.5 seconds at a constant speed. Once the rotation is complete, it stops immediately.

A classic microwave chime then plays, followed by another 1.5 seconds in which the subject remains completely still. The final video is required to use a vertical 9:16 format.

Google accompanied its social media posts with a playful caption suggesting that users will be “back after going around in circles”, tying the spinning visual effect to the microwave theme.

Prompt shared by Google

Prompt: Isolate [subject] in a bright, modern Indian elevator. Render the subject as a photorealistic, frozen 3D photogrammetry scan, perfectly preserving their exact face, body, clothes, and pose as a single rigid, fused mesh. Static locked camera, static background. ZERO skeletal movement. Animate ONLY Y-axis rotation: complete one full 360° spin over exactly 7.5s at a constant velocity (must look like rotating a 3D model, not a living person). Stop instantly at 360°, play a "microwave DING," and hold perfectly still for the final 1.5s. Vertical 9:16.
