New Delhi: As many as 149 Indian nationals have been rescued from flood-hit Nepal, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in its latest update on Sunday.

The MEA has also shared a list containing the names of the 149 Indians rescued following the devastating flash floods that struck parts of Nepal on August 26.

The latest update, issued as of 5.30 pm on August 30, provides the most recent details on Indian nationals brought to safety amid the ongoing rescue and recovery operations in the Himalayan country.

The floods have caused widespread destruction across several parts of Nepal, with authorities continuing to search for missing people and recover bodies.

MEA releases names of rescued Indians

The MEA's latest update includes the names of the 149 Indian nationals who have been rescued from the affected areas.

The list is expected to help families and relatives verify the status of those who were in Nepal when the flash floods struck.

The ministry has been coordinating with the Nepalese authorities as rescue operations continue in the flood-hit regions.

Nepal flood situation

The devastating floods have killed hundreds of people in Nepal, while thousands remain missing.

The Bhotekoshi River, which flows south from the Himalayan border region, carried floodwaters downstream, sweeping away homes, vehicles, roads and bridges and damaging infrastructure.

Authorities have also warned of a fresh rise in water levels in the Bhotekoshi River and urged residents and rescue personnel in affected areas to remain alert.

Search and rescue operations are continuing amid intermittent rainfall, while authorities are also working to identify bodies recovered from downstream areas.

India assists Nepal with identification efforts

India has also sent an 18-member team of forensic experts specialising in DNA analysis to Nepal to assist with identifying victims.

Nepalese authorities have said DNA samples are being collected from unidentified bodies before burial so that families can establish the identities of their missing relatives later.

The latest MEA update comes as India and Nepal continue coordinating rescue, identification and repatriation efforts following the disaster.
