A viral video showing “ground circulation and power flashes” near Allegan has gone viral as tornado warnings and severe storms sweep across Michigan, leaving over 40,000 customers without power overnight.

A powerful storm system swept across Michigan late Tuesday night, triggering tornado warnings, marine alerts, and widespread power outages but it is a viral on-ground video showing intense storm activity near Allegan that has captured the most attention online.
The National Weather Service issued urgent tornado warnings for multiple areas, including Monroe, South Monroe, Dundee, Allegan, Otsego, and Plainwell, as severe weather moved rapidly across the region.
In Allegan County, officials issued a tornado warning until 12:30 AM EDT, while Monroe and nearby areas remained under alert until 2:45 AM EDT.
The most widely shared footage from the night shows terrifying storm conditions south of Allegan.
The video quickly spread across social media, with viewers reacting in shock to the visible storm rotation, flashing lights from power disruptions, and intense wind conditions.
A photo captured during the same weather event was also shared by News Channel 3 WWMT TV, further confirming the severity of the storm system moving through the region.
Residents across multiple towns reported fast-changing conditions and shared real-time updates.
Power outages cross 40,000 customers
As storms intensified, infrastructure took a major hit.
A meteorologist reported, “Over 40,000 Consumers Energy customers are without power as of 12:20 Wednesday morning.”
Later updates placed outages at 41,027 customers, with major impact zones including Allegan, Barry County, Carson City, and parts of northeast Lansing.
Officials noted that damage patterns suggested a mix of tornado activity and damaging straight-line winds, both contributing to widespread disruption.
In addition to land-based warnings, the National Weather Service issued Special Marine Warnings for:
Lake Erie waters from Detroit River to North Cape
Lake St. Clair (U.S. portion)
Detroit River and St. Clair River
These alerts remained active until early morning hours, warning of dangerous boating and wind conditions.
