The Mexican Navy’s training vessel Cuauhtemoc returns to Veracruz after its Brooklyn Bridge crash that left two crew members dead

Mexico City: The Mexican Navy’s training vessel that collided with the Brooklyn Bridge in May, resulting in the deaths of two crew members, arrived back in the port of Veracruz on Sunday to an official welcome.
Several sailors had taken their positions on the 150-foot-tall rigging of the Cuauhtemoc when it struck the well-known bridge connecting Manhattan and Brooklyn in New York. Along with the two fatalities, around 20 sailors sustained injuries.
The vessel, which serves as a platform for cadets to learn traditional navigation methods, travels to international ports as part of goodwill missions. New York was among 22 ports across 15 countries that were included in its earlier journey, which ended in tragedy.
At the ceremony in Veracruz, which featured a flyover, President Claudia Sheinbaum paid tribute to the two sailors killed, who were both in their early 20s.
Both US and Mexican investigators have launched probes into the crash.
