Katy Perry, Gayle King, and a group of prominent women are set to embark on a space adventure with Blue Origin, Jeff Bezos' rocket company. The all-female crew, selected by Jeff Bezos’ fiancee Lauren Sanchez, will join her on a 10-minute spaceflight this spring.

Sanchez, a former TV journalist and helicopter pilot, is set to lead the flight aboard Blue Origin's New Shepard rocket, taking off from West Texas. 

In addition to Perry, the pop star who will "shoot across the sky," the crew includes King, a TV journalist, and Aisha Bowe, a former NASA rocket scientist turned engineering firm leader.

Also joining the mission are research scientist Amanda Nguyen, movie producer Kerianne Flynn, and Sanchez herself.

Blue origin’s 11th human spaceflight

This will mark Blue Origin’s 11th human spaceflight, following a series of successful missions that began in 2021. The flight, like others, will see passengers experience a few minutes of microgravity as their capsule soars past the Karman line, 100 kilometers (62 miles) above sea level, the recognised boundary of space. The flight will last just 10 or 11 minutes.

The rocket booster makes an upright vertical landing, while the capsule deploys parachutes for a gentle touchdown in the Texas desert.

Some passengers get free rides, while others have paid a hefty sum to experience weightlessness. It remains unclear who is financing this particular mission. However, the excitement surrounding the all-female crew is sure to draw attention.
