A dramatic incident unfolded on a Jetstar flight from Sydney to Melbourne on Thursday when a passenger suddenly opened the emergency exit door and made a daring escape by climbing over the wing and engine.

The man, who had been exhibiting erratic and strange behaviour throughout the flight, disregarded repeated requests from flight attendants to remain seated and ignored the seatbelt signs.

As soon as the plane touched down at Melbourne Airport, the man sprang into action, rushing towards the emergency exit row and shoving aside fellow passengers who tried to stop him.

Witnesses described the scene as chaotic and terrifying, with screams and shrieks filling the air as the man ripped open the emergency door and deployed the slide.

Audrey Varghese, a fellow passenger on the flight, recounted the harrowing experience, saying, "People thought his behaviour was quite strange, and then as soon as the plane started to come to a stop, he immediately got up and basically charged to where the emergency exit row is."

She added that the man was "shoving people, causing a bit of commotion" before making his escape.

The man's reckless actions sparked widespread panic among the passengers, who were left shaken and frightened by the ordeal. Australian federal police quickly responded to the incident, arresting the man for alleged aggressive behavior and breaching aircraft safety protocols.

Following his arrest, the man was assessed by ambulance officers and later transferred to a hospital for further evaluation, where he remains. Police are still investigating the incident and charges are likely to be laid at a future date. Jetstar, a subsidiary of Qantas, has expressed gratitude to passengers for their patience and understanding during the incident.
